• Barry Crockett Legacy

    Barry Crockett’s Extended Tasting Note

The aromatics, which are typical of the character delivered by Pot Still distillation, are generously complimented by a touch of lime, succulent green berries, pears and some green sweet pepper. The sweetness of vanilla and the deeper charred oak notes represent the seamless contribution made by maturation in best quality casks.

A complex spicy and fruity aroma with toasted wood notes evident.

Full flavoured and complex; a harmonious balance of spicy, creamy, fruity, sherry and toasted notes.

Satisfyingly long, the complex flavours linger on the palate.

how fitting is it that the first ongoing bottling of a Single Pot Still whiskey under the Midleton name, pays tribute to our Master Distiller, Barry Crockett.

This expression represents Barry’s personal selection of old and elegant Pot Still whiskeys, exclusively matured in American bourbon barrels.

Bearing the name of the celebrated second generation Midleton Master Distiller, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy represents a selection of pot still whiskeys which have been matured exclusively in American bourbon barrels with a subtle contribution from a pot still distillate which has been matured in an unseasoned or virgin American barrel.

The initial light sweet top note of cane sugar can be attributed to the influence of the well-aged grain whiskey component. Then the pot still spices appear along with vanilla and oak char. Within the combination you find, dairy fudge, milk chocolate and green apples.

Very soft and mellow with a satisfying balance of confectionary sweetness, through soft ripe fruit to the more robust pot still spices. The charred oak and barley grains contribute to the wonderful complexity.

The succulent mellow flavours remain in balance and are slow to fade.

Just two original barrels of this whiskey survived in warehouse, yielding only 400 bottles following 30 years of maturation in cask – a great deal of the original spirit laid down in 1969 had evaporated away. The whiskey is representative of the very traditional, strongly flavoured, Midleton pot still spirit for which the old Midleton Distillery was justifiably famous. Old Midleton whiskey was sold at various ages ranging from seven to fifteen years old; the latter was particularly well thought of by whiskey connoisseurs.

The spirit was triple distilled from a mash of barley and malted barley in copper pot stills and aged for 26, almost 27 years, in Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, and American Bourbon barrels, and then finished for some months in Portuguese Port pipes.
